Ensemble liberté opens its eyes wide to the imbalance between the northern and southern hemisphere and the gears of globalization as it collects songs from ports, sweatshops, plantations and mines. Sarcastic, protesting, resigned or dancing, people deal with what they should feed: the working conditions of a world in which we can import our clothes, our vegetables and our computers for the starvation wages of others remain the central theme of the LA TABACCARA project. In addition to modern slavery and the scent of cigars and coffee beans, happy harvest songs and the rowing rhythm of Irish shanties also find a place, and with needle, thread and thimbles the thirty young voices and instruments of the project choir sew a multi-layered patchwork carpet.
